Well, Ron White, high school these days are about sex, drugs, and alcohol.
I think that's what it was like 20 years ago, just more about it today.

I can only say that things haven't changed much since I was in school 25 years ago- the teasing, ostracism, peer abuse, teacher abuse and labeling, and bullying are still issues in most schools, and they have gotten considerably worse, not better, with time. High school was the worst and by far the most traumatic experience of my life- I still bear the scars from what I went through, and some of them are so deep that they will NEVER HEAL, no matter how much time passes. I sometimes think my soul is scarred, in fact.
Think for a moment about all the shootings and deaths which have happened at different places around the country, and that may give you a clue as to what high school is like these days. It's a cruel, extremely artificial environment which has almost no resemblance whatever to the real world. In theory, high school is supposed to prepare people for college and and the work world, but that seldom happens. What's more likely to happen is that there are always those kids who will fall through the cracks in the system, the way I did, and wind up as social outcasts and pariahs. These are the people who will become the future Eric Harrises and Dylan Klebolds of the world, and wind up shooting and killing their classmates and teachers. There's a link between bullying, cliques, ostracism, and shootings- but until people finally wake up and smell the coffee, things won't change much if at all.

I'm in high school (Sophomore) and sometimes it feels really hard. There is a lot of pressure, because teachers give out so many tests and all these Practice SAT's and stuff. It seems like they are pushing more education onto us every year. Soon kids in kindergarten will already know Calculus (maybe)! I saw this thing on the news about how some schools were trying to shorten or take away recess. It's crazy!!! I guess you're mainly asking about high school though...I think it has gotten a little harder...education wise. I talked to an older sibling of mine and she said that she could pass with a "D" and still get the credits in high school. Now they make it harder...you have to get a "C" or higher. It is just tough sometimes! But hey...we don't have to pay bills yet!

the teachers are ordinary till she's taking AP or IB training; even maximum honors training at present are a shaggy dog tale. Stricter college admissions techniques placed extra pressures on extreme college scholars, yet different than i think of each of a similar pressures have been around perpetually. If she's completely depressing and not doing nicely there is not something incorrect with falling by the wayside, getting a GED, going to community college for a 300 and sixty 5 days and then shifting to a 4-3 hundred and sixty 5 days.

The same believe or not. The same peer pressures exist, the same cliques, the same trying to outdo each other. Getting into college is more competetive, so kids are trying harder these days to get better grades. Drugs were problem in the 80's and 90's, as they are now. Trying to fit in has always be hard for teenagers and still is. So I think its about the same.

Do you really need to ask that question?
It's a LOT harder.
It gets harder to get into good colleges every YEAR.
The reason it is harder is all the stupid busy-work the teachers give us though. Academically, in dufficulty to understand, i mean, i don't think that ever will change unless people start trying harder in humongous clumps and FAST.
School is stupid though. Not education (which is good, and obviously necessary, it could even be enjoyable if you didn't have to physically go to school) but teachers at public schools and such among everything else. I simply hate school. My "goal" is to kill the evil in school lol (this is a joke). But school really is evil and stupid. And this is coming from a student that gets straight A's.

Harder... I think were more pressured to do everything. I mean my mom was an honors student but she didn't really do anything else and my dad played basketball but wasn't an excellent student but I feel pressured to be in all honors and AP classes and get a 4.0, play water polo and swim and have a job. I think the drama and all that crap is about the same though..

OH so much harder! I'm currently a junior, and all my classes are honors, and I have no life... I used to watch shows like Saved by the Bell, or Beverly Hills 90210, and high school is nothing like that. That is what my view of high school was before I actually started it, and realized that it was crap...
When my mom was in high school in the '60s she took classes like Typography, Home-ec and Driver's ed as actual classes. She wasn't even required to take Biology or Calculus or anything. She made up her entire schedule! Plus she was allowed to go out for lunch.
School is too strict nowadays...

I LOVE HIGHSCHOOL! I'm a freshman everythings going well for me. Varsity cheerleader and voted freshman homecoming queen! I love High School so far! It's harder academicly because people are putting so much pressure to succeed with; AP, honors, etc. ) I think it's harder also because the market for colleges is more difficult than it was 10 or 20 years ago
EDIT- I did! so did some of my other freshman friends.

It's a very cruel place. It's tough. There is so much pressure to do well and get good grades. To fit in with your peers. There is so much else going on on top of all the high school stress.
