From Mark Twain;
"The mania for giving the Government power to meddle with the private affairs of cities or citizens is likely to cause endless trouble, through the rivaly of schools and creeds that are anxious to obtain official recognition, and there is great danger that our people will lose our independence of thought and action which is the cause of much of our greatness, and sink into the helplessness of the Frenchman or German who expects his government to feed him when hungry, clothe him when naked, to prescribe when his child may be born and when he may die, and, in time, to regulate every act of humanity from the cradle to the tomb, including the manner in which he may seek future admission to paradise."

Probably. The Democrats are a party that caters to mediocrity and represents the losers in society. People who quit school and then complain because their fast food wage won't cover their basic necessities. They have to leech off of those who've worked hard and achieved success. Typical of parasites.

No. And the quote does not apply to health care. Look at the rest of the world and infant mortality figures and life expectancy.
I live in the UK and work in the NHS (our universal health care system). It has problems, but not as many as the US healthcare system has. Despite spending much more per head of population than other developed countries, the US has worse health outcomes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_care#Economics Life expectancy and infant mortality figures in the US are worse than in other developed countries, despite more money being spent (and wasted) in the USA.
In the UK there are waiting lists for routine problems. Problems that can not wait are treated as emergencies. Also, in the UK, people can also have private health care.
I can understand Americans being proud of living in the richest and most powerful country in the world. What I can not understand is why Americans settle for an expensive healthcare system where babies die that would have a better chance of life if born in another developed country.

I don't care for Hillary but I wouldn't fault her for NOT reading that quote. Its just a quote by a guy who lived 100 years ago (and it might as well be 5 million years ago because its not relevant to contemporary social politics).
People put way too much stock on quotes from famous people... I would NEVER trust a politician that makes policies out of a quote. So points to Hillary if she didn't bother to read that (or any other candidate).

Twain was correct.
Hillary is wrong.
Universal health care and/or socialized medicine doesn't work anywhere it is tried. Our own government run health programs do not work either. People are lulled into a false sense of security because the media is very careful to NOT report facts it doesn't like.
How many people realize that Medicare premiums are up 120% in a decade?
1998 premium $43.80, 2008 premium $96.40. Because of the insane "donut hole" of fed designed prescription coverage, seniors who have a Medicare HMO have likely seen their benefits DECREASE to mimic the crazy donut hole instead of the better plan they had before. Any senior who is ill or poor probably has to also either go with an HMO which cedes a LOT of control to the insurer OR scrape up additional funds for a "medigap" policy to HELP defray the 20% co-pays he has. He's paying more--a decade ago he could get an angiogram or angioplasty on an HMO plan with no co-pay in some cases--now he'll pay the 20% from all I can see from the various plans. That's a good grand in all likelihood (through the mysteries of coding, and hiding CMS info, it can be difficult to state ALL of anything, but if someone who can pull the CPT codes wants to quote substantially SMALLER figures with documentation, let them do so).
The free market, which we do NOT have in health care, does work. That's why you could go into a walk-in clinic at Wal-Mart or such for the things that send most folks to a doc or ER for bills well over $100 for UNDER $100 for an upper respiratory infection or something else that is NOT "nothing" medically. Those folks are still turning a profit, but by not waiting for and begging for insurance reimbursement, they save a LOT and pass that savings on to the public.
Lots of health care issues are addressed and good ideas offered in the PDF (not blurb) here, if anyone's interested:

Rhoda above, I voted for Obama in '08, and so have faith me as quickly as I say that that develop into an idiotic answer. it is not substantial no remember if those words are comforting. The coverage companies are no longer the venture with wellness care. the venture with wellness care is that the incredibly centers are unaffordable. So unaffordable, in certainty, that even the coverage this is meant to mitigate the fee burden has develop into unaffordable. No Democrat-sponsored wellness care reform bill that I even have seen so a approaches does something to handle the incredibly costs of medical centers. It in simple terms pumps the reimbursement money via government particularly of via companies. So with the two plan, costs are allowed to balloon. they have, and that they are going to. New regulations remedy not one of the incredibly reasons of the venture. in case you think of medical coverage companies are colluding to gouge shoppers, then pass a wellness care reform bill that implements new anti-have faith and anti-gouging regulations. concern solved. you do no longer would desire to make government your wellness insurer to repair that concern. yet unluckily, that's no longer even the venture to start with. for sure. See above. Blind supporters of Democrats are being morons approximately this. they do no longer look to be actual questioning critically approximately what's employing the venture.

You should google the Nazi platform before Hitler took over as it's leader. It reads like a modern day Democratic politicians "Christmas" ad.
