RE:
Is it true that Joseph Stalin killed 20 million Russians, or did they die as a result of the war?

Stalin murdered over 20 Million of his own people, the historical evidence points more to 30 Million. Some credit this to mental deterioration or other failing. It is not so publicized as the "holocaust" of Germany against the Jewish persons because it was much more an internal matter, all within the USSR rather than going to another country such as Poland and killing those there as Hitler did to the Jews wherever he went. The Russian "holocaust" dwarfed the holocaust by Hitler.

In the Russian history books, the words about Stalin are very few, and little is taught about him because of his terrible errors, while Khrushchev is praised with many words in the Communist history books.

For those who study such mass murders on a large scale performed by officials, the largest is that done in Central and South America after the Columbus discovery. 40 Million persons killed - the remainder were compliant and "good Catholics", since the alternative was death.

Remember - all dictatorships are tyrannical by design and become evil, harming a good number of their own citizens

Stalin Killed

30 russians were killed in world war 2. Mostly by the Nazi invaders. Stalin was a horrible man and Krushev had the conscience to tell the communist party after Stalin died. Stalin did killed millions and tortured to death, or sent to Siberia to die, a minority did survive the Gulag...but wait a minute we are talking about one man. no one man could kill that many people...the blame also lay with henchmen. and you could say that about any leader same with hitler. without thousands of killers hitler and stalin would have never made it into the history books...

Stalin did kill millions of his own people. He was a paranoid megalomaniac that held his position through fear and outright elimination of any potential threats.

The invading Germans also killed millions of Russians during the war.

I don't understand this notion lately of acting like all of WW2 was just about the eastern front. The Russians simply could not have won the war on their own. Each of the big three powers were vital to the Allied victory. Without the materiel and strategic support from the US and UK, Russia would not have been able to hold out long enough to bounce back. And without the opening of the western front it is quite possible the Russian attacks would have fizzled before they won. The Russians were beginning to face manpower shortages. And the way they expended troops, they would have been in trouble rather abruptly. If you take any one of the three big allied powers out of the mix, the other two could not have won.

Many were killed during WW2. Russia was wrecked by WW2. Then The U.S.A. started in on calling Communism not Stalin but Communism evil. Cold War Propaganda. Before War during Revolution many on opposing sides were killed many could have been accused by Czar supporters of backing The Revolution or Civil War Whites against Reds. Whites Tsarists,Reds Communists. Unless earlier war among Tsarists where Whites fought Reds. The problem with calling Stalin Dictator is The Communists were all called evil not just one man. To point nuclear weapons at at a place and threaten nuclear annialation because they have a different economic system does not inspure confidence in accuracy of said pointer's historical version of things. What was attempted was to equate Stalin to Hitler after WW2 was over. The hostile Nuclear Pointer could not blame Stalin anyway given the attituide towards Communism would have created Any Deaths. Besides all the while Communism was declared evil Racism was prevelant in The Free Country pointing weapons at Russia. Civil Rights movement at times later, beatings, attacks by dogs, murders of black people, Vietnam, Tortures of people in South America in 1970's-1980's it is hypocritical to call Stalin a Dictator when many including Pinochet supported by U.S.A. A country which requires a Civil Rights Movement and has no respect for Civil Rights is in no position to attack someone over lack of them. It is arrogant, rude Remember what response King Leonidas had to Persians demanding capitulation. Similar arrogance on exibit by U.S.A.

Josef Stalin surely killed ATLEAST 20 million people, not just Russians but also from other counties like Estonia, Lithuania etc. He even destroyed whole Karelia while he was doing some "cleaning".
What Hitler killed in WW2 was just a drop compairing to Stalin. And I am not giving any credit for Hitler. He was a maniac as well as Stalin but people only remembers Nazi terror as they lost the war. If things were different and nazies have won, their terror would have been forgotten as it is now with Stalin.

Both assumptions are true , those who were not murdered by the internal security forces were killed not only by the Wehrmacht in battle but by the tactics the Russian General Georgi Zhukov utilized in the offensive , human waves , to collapse German defensive positions .
