Jim Morrison has a strong cult following as can be witnessed if you visit his grave in Paris on any given day of the week. He was a singer, poet, visionary, risk taker, alcoholic, and possible drug addict. What is his greatest gift to the world? Why is he still so popular in American culture?

he was a voice of a very special time in american history. he poetic spoke for a large group of people and his music and words were powerful to those people. his words still apply to people today and he represents a freedom and beauty that is hard to find in today's music. he was overcome with his art and the beauty that he wished to create that drugs and alcohol began to consume his life. i think hes inspiration because of what he could achieve, see, and feel always seems beyond what i allow myself to experience and so i enjoy listening to his perspective. plus i totally missed out on the best time in music (in my opinion) and hes one of my favorites!

He was who he was, and hated it when anyone tried to make more out of that than there was to it. You had to be there, he didn't want to be the person he became, he didn't want the life he had.

I don't know that he ever intended to give the world a gift. It was his talent, he needed money, he had to use what he had because it nagged at him, but he hated the system and hated authority, and he spent a lot of time unhappy. He was so intelligent that people could really anger him, he had no patience for stupidity. He isn't that popular now. People visit his grave to be macabre. He wouldn't have liked that.

"Look. I don't know who you are or what your deal is, but I don't want you in my movie." (Jim Morrison)

If I could pick two people who've been alive in the past 100 years who I'd rather be, it would be Jim Morrison and Teddy Roosevelt.

First of all Jim Morrison was just cool. He had a great voice, girls all loved him, and he was very intelligent. What else is there?

I think it's the once good lucking rebel that sung really deep songs. People love the crazy drunk and drugged out people because most people can't live like that but the rockstar way is very appealing. Now I'm not saying its fun in anyway to be a drugged out person but the crowd loves it as long as there not screwing up the song.

It's probably the age thing. He died when he was only 27 yrs old so now he immortalized as that young free spirited soul of rock and roll (even though he wanted to be known as a great poet).

During the height of the Vietnam War, he was one of the many rockin rollers who helped to define the "Counter Culture" so, just chalk it up to the timing.

His rebel stance.
Much like the image of James Dean.
Besides all the hoopla, IMO he was one of the brightest poets of 20th century America.
