All beings have the internal will to survive. "Survival of the Fittest" really does apply in our world of greed and desire. Our lives are driven by these two things. Many people live their lives desiring money, wealth and fame. We all need to sit back and enjoy our lives and our purpose. I believe that happiness in much more important in life than money. Money does not always provide security. It can cause problems in peoples lives. Some people get money and just spend and spend, which leads into debt. Money also creates greed and envy. Humans want to feel Superior to one another.
For true happiness, you need to look inside yourself. Don't worry about money or keep waiting for a new day to come. You won't end up appreciating today and this very moment. Spend your life doing the activities that you enjoy. Activities you enjoy are one way to be happy. It is ok to look for love, but don't make that the focus of your life. It will drive you insane. It will make you force relationships. Don't look for purpose either. Your purpose is to fur fill the activities you love and enjoy your life. Enjoy what you have in your life at the moment because some day it won't be there.

In our society, money buys the necessities in life, which are food, shelter, and clothing. Unless you're Amish, there's also electricity, gas, water, and garbage pick-up. Of course, after all that (or before, if you're not self-employed), are taxes, 22-50%, depending on your income. Don't forget medical expenses. Get one bad year, and you're done for for the next three.
We must save money so we can survive when we don't have a job. Jobs get downsized all the time. That's why a responsible person has enough savings to last a year for if they need to find a job, and savings for retirement. Nursing homes cost $72,000 per year in Nebraska because their children don't have the skills to take care of their parents. Would you be able to change your grandparent's cathater or give them a shot if they have a fit because of their dimensia?
You mention choosing between money and happiness. If you don't have enough money, you feel like you're drowning, and it's impossible to be happy. You hope you have enough food, but you don't. You struggle to pay the bills, and have to choose which ones not to pay.
You asked "What is the point of our lives?" You wouldn't ask that question if you had a spiritual compass. If you want a biblical answer, our lives are our time of grace. It's the time allotted to us to come to the faith.
How do we achieve happiness? Be grateful for everything. There's a silver lining to every situation, you just have to find it. If you're grateful, you'll be content. Content is the opposite of greed. People who are greedy are always looking to fill a hole that won't fill up. They're never happy. People who are content are almost always happy.

Happiness is more important for life however happiness cannot persist without money..
People may be happy without money that too a real happiness but it cant last for a long time.. When u hav money , a lot indeed,
then u will feel more happy .. (even if u r not happy u feel that u r somewhat happy that u hav more money that others don't hav).
that is the superiority complex...
As u said saved money provides security but We provide more security to save money not only security but also a lot of sacrifices..
Simply " We sacrifice our happiness for money by saying money brings us happiness...." Thats it..
But as humans we need money to survive....
There are a lot in the world that are more important than money but the pityfilled thing is that they are all, have to be bought with money....

Despite the seemingly unanswerable question "What is the meaning of life?", I believe that there are reasons for human existence.
Humans do not exist solely to survive. We also exist to reproduce (just for the record, I have nothing against homosexuality). Most humans can choose to reproduce (notice that I say "most" and not "all"). People that do reproduce can nurture their young and find happiness and fulfilment in watching their children grown and develop into respectable young adults.
Another "point to our lives" is to leave our mark on this Earth. By this, I mean that a reason to exist is so that we can be remembered after we die. Obviously, people do not need to be famous or possess large sums of money to be remembered after their deaths.
While we live on Earth, we can acquire many friends and build on relationships with them and our family. They can pass their memories of us down to their children or members of younger generations. In this way, what we do on Earth matters and is important.

Unfortunately, money is only a poor substitute for what we really need. We need happiness to survive, not money. The more we run after money, the greater the dissatisfaction and lesser the happiness. In fact, the feeling of having enough money has got nothing to do with the actual possession of money. It is a state of mind, which we decide to have, or not have!
So the point of our lives is to be happy and enjoy life, as it can be.

Animals eat, sleep, mate and deffend, as do humans, but human beings have the ability to question their existance, animals do not. If a human does not use their intelligence to do this, they are cosidered less than an animal. Real happiness is to know who you are in reaity, beyond this mortaly body and worl. For example-We are not this material body, IE; Race, color, nationality, Religion, mind, intellect, senses, job, etc. We are all eternal spirit souls, part and parcel of the Supreme Soul, also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. We never die, only this mortal body dies. This material world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery, only one fourth of the souls come here, and the rest are enjoying blissful eternal loving relationships with our Maker named above. We fell here due to envying Gods position. He made the material world for those who want to try to live separately from Him (Which is impossible because He is actually everywhere). After many lifetimes of trying to be happy in this temporary world one becomes frustrated and board and begins to question their existence. We then seek out real happiness, and when one becomes sincere, God reveals how to come back Home. Those who are intelligent, take up the process of self realization (Bhakti Yoga) which begins with the chanting of the Maha Mantra (the great mantra for deliverance from all suffering and illusion), which gives one real peace, happiness and reality. Then at the end of life they can give up all material attachments and fully surrender to God and return to the eternal Kingdom, where there is no more birth, death, old age, or disease and be eternally happy. For info. Go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita- As it is by Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada asitis.com can be read on line.

A very wise family friend who is like a father to me has a shop-aholic wife. He is about 50 something now and owns 5 companys and a branch of houses but suffers from stoke, paralysis and cancer.
He says,
"To live you can't be by yourself. You need a companion. Women, you can't live with them and you can't live without them. Then again you can't live in today's world without a little bit of money (literally when you think about it"
I am 13 now and ever since i was 8 I had depressing thoughts about death. How my consciusness will cease to exist as will i. I won't be me anymore, i'll just be gone...
The phenomenom known as death is unexplainable so we made up beings know as god to explain such things. Some things are better not to be know or in other words something human will never know. just live your way and try to be happy and attain as much knowledge as possible.
Happiness can be defined as distraction since our lives will inevitably end in death. To keep our minds of this depressing though we constantly try to distract ourselves with such things as work, games and entertainment which is all to easy to find nowadays. Money is the fuel that supplies us with these things. There can never be a end to this entertainment since there are so many forms. So theoretically speaking, the greater the distraction the more it will cost. damn...my words sound like a madman and i sound so goth too....Just do you best. Contact me if you feel the same as i do

true happiness is a simple life, also one close to nature. we are far from nature today. now days our love has shifted from nature to money. people love money. money is made up so to say. an idea. people love money because it gets them a nice house and a nice car and a nice luxurious life. people with loads of money are not people. living a luxurious life in aesthetic surrounding is not living life but running away from it. why would you choose to have all the money in the world and no happiness? you would be a fool. you would be wise to have all the happiness and no money.
problem is that we are dependant upon money, so it is valued to have the most. and that leads to deeper problems than having no money. a fake life. built around nothing of true value.

I think you're confusing "what is the point to life?" with "what will make me happy?"
Point to life requires a plan to our existence and the only possible planner of our existence is God.
Without God, there is no point to anything. It is illogical to think that we can invent our own point for our own existence.
I also know that natural processes such as evolution do not plan anything and therefore cannot give purpose, meaning or a point to our existence. Therefore I know that, with just evolution, there is no point to surviving or reproducing or living or anything else.
“Unless you assume a God, the question of life’s purpose is meaningless.” –Bertrand Russell
If we admit that God might exist, we can immediately see that He must have put our intense need for purpose and meaning into our human nature to point us to seek Him. So the point to life is to seek our Creator.
Without God we're just constantly going to be searching for feelings (sense) of purpose but can never achieve the reality of purpose.
