It's interesting that you find breastfeeding gross, but you would gladly have a cow breastfeed your baby because that's less gross, and more natural.
Unless you don't give your babies ANY milk after the age of one, I don't see your point.
Children need milk until at least age two. And since they need it, breastmilk should take care of that need unless for some reason the mother is unable to breastfeed. It is not gross, it is natural, and it should be the norm, and not the exception.
What is it about it you find gross? Is it your breasts? Or your baby's mouth? Maybe you should see a therapist about that.

I personally chose to stop when my daughter was 12 months, she pretty much just weaned herself right to a cup. However all health organizations agree that there are benefits to nursing much beyond that age. In fact, we're one of the only countries that doesn't have toddlers nursing as the norm. So what do I think of the moms? I think nothing, they are doing what they feel is best.
I do get annoyed when I see all these overweight toddlers who are at risk for a variety of health problems eating fast food all the time, and drinking juice and soda constantly. Now that grosses me out.

Lol, gross? Is that the best you could think up?
I am currently nursing my own toddler and find it wonderful. And it is most definitely not just for me...have you ever tried nursing a toddler? Not something you can force on them.
Maybe learning about the benefits of extended breastfeeding may help that narrow mind of yours... that is if you are willing to actually read the research. But if you want to stick to your guns and just go off of your icky feelings and not actual facts...well, that is your choice.

I don't think it is so awful if you don't breastfeed toddlers. I get annoyed when peole go on about how it is gross/ just for the mother when pediatricians are clearly saying it is more healthy. It is not what you are used to. But after all maybe people should get over that. I don't chose to keep my kid from watching all TV, even though I know it is healthier. But I don't call people twisted or sick or gross who do keep their kids from TV.

I think it's wonderful for the child and wish I saw more of it! I weaned my first at three weeks old because I was young and made to feel completely wrong and uncomfortable for breastfeeding at all. I weaned my second at 22 mo because I was about four months pregnant and personally needed a break before my now breastfed almost 3 mo old son was born. I don't judge or think less of any mother for bottle feeding her baby, so why do so many people judge us breastfeeding mommies? I also know many two and three year olds that walk around with a bottle. How is that ANY different? As for the rude comment about having a sex life, my hubby LOVES my big milk-filled boobies. I don't think he wants me to stop anytime soon. Also, as many others have already stated, there are many benefits to breastfeeding to two years and beyond. Do you feel inferior because you didn't provide the best for your baby or have you just not yet educated yourself on the subject of breastfeeding and its benefits?

I think it's cold and unnatural to suddenly rip a child away from his biggest source of comfort on his first birthday. Why impose arbitrary deadlines for weaning? Nursing toddlers usually only nurse a couple of times a day. My 2 year old nurses at bedtime and if she wakes up at night. Big deal. Humans are meant to nurse for years, not months.
To those who speculate about nursing mothers' sex lives--mine is fabulous! Nursing has actually given me a level of comfort with my body that I was unable to have before. If big, round boobs gross you out, then you deserve to miss out!

How is something that women have been doing for thousands of years gross?
There is nothing wrong with breastfeeding until the age of 2. Numerous organizations, including WHO recommend breastfeeding until 2.
I don't understand how people who are squeamish about something so natural can be mothers...

I think you're gross! For feeding your babies puss, blood, and antibiotics. Because cow's milk is full of that.
There's nothing gross about breasts, and there's nothing gross about babies nursing. What's gross about it? Don't you clean your breasts?
That's what breasts are for. BREASTFEEDING! Hello?????? We're mammals!
Anyway, I shouldn't be so hard on you, you're probably a kid. You sure don't sound like a grown up, and you definitely don't sound like a mother. But you shouldn't say things like that. You're insulting women that are doing the best for their child, and you obviously don't know anything about breastfeeding or its benefits.

I still breast feed my 16 month old. I didn't start out to BF this long - my goal was 6 months, then a year. Then she turned a year old and adamantly refused to drink cow's milk (not nearly as sweet as mama's milk, evidently). She eats regular food, but when she asks for milk, I oblige. She is too busy to nurse in public, although FYI, many states have laws protecting a mother's right to BF her child in public. It can be done discreetly, but personally, if my child was hungry, the rest of you can exercise your perogative to look away. What's creepy is the nasty pervs trying to catch a flash of nipple when I'm trying to feed my child! Mind your own business for pete's sake! And to the guy who wondered about the BF'ing moms' sex life - adults can't nurse - it's a specific instinctive skill mammals are born with that is forgotten once they're no longer nursing. You don't just suck! LOL True, some moms have excessive supply and might leak a bit, but I can assure you the girls are not off limits to my DH and he has never gotten a drop of milk out of them in spite of what I suspect were his best efforts. ROFL
