there is a subset of cichlids called "Mouth brooders" Many of them come from Africa. They will hold the eggs in their mouth and allow the babies to free swim for a bit, but they will actually hold them in their mouth as a group when there's danger. Aulonocara, Haplochromis, and Pseudotropheus will hold the eggs in their mouth and the fry after they hatch.

Geophagus and Sarotherodon will hold the fry in their mouth after the exposed eggs hatch. Geophagus is from the Americas and I believe is the Western hemispheres only mouth brooding cichlid

Convicts and Firemouths will pick up babies with their mouths and spit them out in their nursery pits, but they aren't what you're looking for.

Cardinalfish (saltwater) are also mouthbrooders, but it's the father that holds them in his mouth. Thought since you were also asking about starfish, you might be looking for a marine mouthbrooder. I've kept the Bangaii cardinals, and had them spawn twice.

And the starfish does use tube feet to hold to objects and to move, as the first answer mentioned.

theres Arowana for mouth brooders. they're quite exspensive though. also alagae eaters that sticks onto the tank...they might not go well if both in the same tank. the Arowana will try to attack it if there's no cover for it to hide.

Convict Cichlids are a tropical water fish. They are mouth brooders. When they lay the eggs, the guard them visciously, and when they hatch they keep them in their mouth to protect them. They are a common freshwater fish for home aquariums, and they are agressive. Also a lot of cichlids do this as well
