Hi!
I have Norton Antivirus (not Norton Internet Security) and because of the firewall I can't use some programs that need access to the internet. The problem is that in the Norton website the instructions they give to turn off the firewall are for Internet Security instead of the Antivirus. Does anyone know how I can turn the firewall off?

You should never turn off the firewall alltogether. Doing so will make your computer an easy target for hackers.

You should look at the programs that are blocked by Norton AV. There is an option for allowing programs to access the internet. You know where the options button is. Just look for the equivalent of the firewall.

Also, update (liveupdate) NAV regularly since the update includes safe-lists. You can fire off liveupdate manually from the NAV screen.

To be honest it doesnt matter how many programmes you install, whats important is how you use them. AVG is an excellent antivirus programme, especially as its free. ( Please note the free version 7.1 ends Jan 15th so update to version 7.5. ) I used Norton for years until 2004 when they wanted to charge the same price for a downloadable upgrade as I would have paid for a boxed disk at pc world.? So I moved to AVG and would never go back. It updates its virus definitions every time you connect to the internet, Norton used to be Wednesdays only. So you already have, in MY opinion a superb Antivirus, a decent Firewall should just about cover it. Biggest problem is the user. At the end of the day YOU are responsible for what you download onto your PC. If you get an unknown email, Dont open it. If a friend sends an attachment , scan it with AVG before you open it. If an email tells you to click on a link, dont, make a note of the address and go to main site site via your web browser ( dont copy and past the link) Have a decent Antivirus, a Decent firewall and use lots of common sense will keep you safe without buying and loading all the "Security" programmes out there.

If you set the firewall to auto, ie it will handle by itself, then you are much saver. If those program required for internet, they can get pass; otherwise, they are virus.

No matter how stupid the firewall was, it would never block you to use internet. Those programs may be trojan, Norton just stopped them.

There should be access into your Norton to adjust the settings for that; try allowing individual programs under exceptions.

Uninstall Norton. If you have scanned, and did not find any problems with your computer, I always remove it. It slows down everything, and Windows Defender to me does all it should.
Everytime I have tried a anti-virus I just get slowed down, and it really just tries to control to much.

Yeah, never turn it off. It's dangerous! I know... my mom did it accidently and got a virus. Is there a way for you to ask for help on the site?
