1st off, without proper diagnostics you cannot get a proper repair... with that being said...
2nd, if your car is starting without any problems then it sounds like you might have 1 of 2 different problems, either a clogged catalytic converter or exhaust or a fuel related problem, such as a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel line.
In either case your best advise would be to take it to a certified and trusted technician/shop and have them do the proper diagnostics for the right repair.
Good luck and hope this helps

The sound from your muffler wont ever make your car shut off. You have an exhaust issue and a runability issue. Best bet is to take it to a reputable repair facility so they can determine the sources of the problems. This is not something you want to start guessing and throwing parts at it hoping for a free fix because you will wind up costing yourself way more money in the long run by not having it properly diagnosed to begin with.

hmmm...this is a good question, in my ase opion i would say check the battery/alternater, the spark plugs/disturber, the timeing fo everything, and/or the injectors. the nosie fromt he muffler is probley a clogged cat, a simple hole somewhere, neighter of which is a big problem to the running of a car, it just drops ur proformane and fuel econmy.
the battery/alternater could be going bad, thus unable to support constance flow to the injectors
the spark plugs could b coming lose/dirty, the disturber could b bad/lose.
the timing could of worn and now everything is miss timed, thus causeing problems
the injectors could b bad/dirty
i would try to take it to the shop if u can, to b safe

This jogs my memory of the previous humorous tale; Why do the British drink heat beer? Ans.: they have Lucas fridges. Lucas being the prince of darkness that produced each and all the electrics for each thing British equipped in years long previous by means of. yet relatively, it style of sounds like a topic with your gasoline pump.
