Why does the bearded dragon that my brother just got for christmas have a light colored body, and a dark tail?
I think it is also constipated like?

What can we do. I really dont want his Christmas present to die....already.. =\
Help would be greatly appreciated.

He also breathes heavy, does not open his eyes and acts lifeless (will not move)

If you're caring for him by advice from a pet store, you're likely doing it wrong. Pet store employees are for the most part severely misinformed about reptile care.

If you have the compact coil type of UVB, this is dangerous to your beardie. You need a florescent tube UVB.

If they had you to put Calci-sand or Repti-Sand or curshed Walnut as the substrate, these are also dangerous. He needs to be on a solid substrate such as paper towels, non-adhesive shelf liner or tiles. The calci-sand clumps when moist, so if some were accidentally ingested, it would clump inside his intestines, causing impaction (kind of like constipation, but way more severe).

What are his temps and how are you measuring them? His basking spot needs to be around 105F and the cooler side of his tank needs to be 75-80F. If he's not warm enough, his food won't digest properly, also causing impaction and other health problems.

Lethargy is a sign of many problems so you need to make sure your setup is correct to help your beardie!

The color is normal for a baby. It will change as it gets older to a yellow, brown or red.

The average life span of a Bearded Dragon is 7-10 years of age if taken care of properly. Soaking Your Beardie once a week is a good thing. It keeps them hydrated. Soak them in a water temperature of 85°F

Signs of Dehydration: Dry Poo, Very lose skin, Tired, or Loss of an appetite.

Bearded dragons require a dry cage, but need to get a lot of water from sprayings and eating fresh vegetables. The hatchlings should be sprayed twice daily on their heads, keeping the spray directed onto their heads as long as they keep lapping up the water.

Adults should be sprayed a few times a week. This simulates the natural way dragons get water by licking up drops of dew they find on plants in the morning. Some do learn to drink from a shallow water pan, but if they get thin or dehydrated it will be necessary to get them to ingest more water by increased spraying and by misting their fresh vegetables.

If using a water dish, the water MUST be changed daily and if the dish has been defecated in, it must be cleaned immediately.

Beardies shed in different areas at different times, so sometimes one area will look light because it is shedding. In addition, some are just colored like that. I dont know how you know he is constpiated, but that is dangerous, I would take him to an exotic pet vet, they dont charge a lot. Make sure he is not on calcium sand or even in that bark stuff, or he can eat that and die when he is trying to eat crickets. Make sure he has enough light and heat -- if it is cold they will slow down and act hiberation like, but thats not good for them. Good luck!

were did you get it from, it really doesn't sound too good, it might be best to contact a specialist vet, then contact the seller. don't want to worry you but my 9yr old beardy went like that. have you been giving it a vit d calci supplement as this helps with bone development, the previous owner may not have, without it its like rickets in humans. try not to have humidity to low eather not below 60% in my own tanks. but best to call a vet.
