There have been several others, though, like Jerry Ruess in 1980, and many before him. John Smoltz, however, is not one of them, as he never recorded both a save and shutout in the same season.

many pitchers have done this: Walter Johnson, Don Drysdale , Grover Cleveland Alexander, Early Wynn, Warren Spahn, Whitey Ford, Jesse Haines, Herm Wehmeir and Barry Latman come to mind.
