I've never been arrested, but some of my friends have.

So I want to know what exactly happens what happens when someone gets arrested.

Please indicate what would happen if it was an adult or a minor and each step.

As an example crime, let's say someone was shoplifting. So what would happen step by step if a 15 or 16 year old was caught shoplifting, compared to an adult?

a minor would be detained first, then a background check would be run against their ID. Once it is proven that the suspect is a minor, the police would attempt to conatact the parents and either be advised to meet the at the location or to meet at the station. since a minor cannot be questioned without a parents ok, they would wait for the parent to arrive or if given permission they would question the suspect. depending on the severity of the crime, the suspect would be finger printed and given a summons or fingerprinted and taken to a juvenile facility where the parent would then post bail for the suspects release.
An adult would be handcuffed and arrested. placed in a squad car, taken to a jail and placed in a holding cel will awaiting a background check. they would then be fingerprinted. I f the crime is not serious enough they would be given a summons, or turned over to the jail to await bail or if they could not post bail would wait in custody until the next arraignment date to go before a judge.
Most shoplifting charges result in a summons and usually do not require an arrest at the time, Unless there are other outstanding warrants against the suspect.
