Does everyone who enters the house also smell maple syrup? Not too long ago there were cases of maple smell all over NYC (and nobody knows where it came from.)

There could be several reasons from benign to serious. The benign being from cooking down sap into syrup and the aroma has permeated, or maple extract has been spilled.

The serious is Maple Syrup Urine Disease where urine and body sweat have an odor that smells like maple syrup. While rare, this is a serious condition that can affect pets and humans.

Is it your house? Obviously there is some chemical that has been released that makes you smell maple syrup. Think about what things you've done recently that have been smelly. Stop doing some of those things and see if the smell goes away.

What are you doing at Mrs. Butterworth's house?
And now professor bullshit will tell it to you strait up .
It must be the chemical maple syrup or a very similar chemical because the olfactory bulb only responds to particular chemicals. unlike sounds which undergo much processing before it becomes useful. The sense of smell goes directly to your brain. Someone might have spilled maple syrup on the carpet or something. The question is why is your nose so sensitive to the smell of maple syrup. Was it a evolutionary survival technique to draw you towards that particular chemical because it helps you to maintain homostasis. Or maybe its just a coincidence.

The only thing I can think of is there may be roach or ant traps arounde. They can have a very strong maple syrup smell, I guess to attract the varments.
