i have been having a recent problem with the car when i turn the key it makes the noise but wont turn over unless i hold down on the gas and crank it up and some times it takes a couple of tries to get it going. i just got these things done on it within a year. 1. a heli coil in one of the spark plugs. a new thermostat, a used ignition coil,a radiator hose, a engine flush, a motor mount. a fuel filter. and i recently like a week ago got a oil change and three days ago i put gas in it and a bottle of STP gas treatment. PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE!!!!!!!!!!!

Only does this after sitting? Sounds as if the engine is flooding and the way you go about starting is holding the accelerator to the floor. Does the exhaust blow black smoke on start up indicating overly rich condition? Contaminated fuel injectors that are partially open and leaking. Does the car start up the second time or after it sits only a minute or two? A little more info and a new set of fuel injectors might be all the Sunfire Needs also replace the fuel filter.

if you turn the key, and it clicks but doesnt turn over, you try again and it starts...sounds like the starter is on its way out.if at first the click was rare,but gets more common over a few weeks or a month or so, sounds like a starter. a good "at home" check would be get a friend to try to start it, and when it clicks but doesnt turn over, have them hold the key in the start position still, and hit the starter with something...hammer,etc. if it starts when you hit it, its definatley the starter.

recalibrate the computer with the mods you have its not reconizing that it has a hot fire coil and wires.
