Where in Long Island could I find a dwarf puffer fish sold in a store? Preferably in Nassau county. I have a 10 gallon (freshwater) tank set up, and would love one of them! I have read up them tremendously, but sadly can't

If you have any pet stores near you, you could always ask the manager if they could order some if they don't regularly keep them in stock. Most stores will do special orders, and may even get several in - if one person is interested in the species, others may be as well. Their availability, however, is controlled by the wholesalers that supply the stores. Each week a list is generated of what fish are available, and that's how any store has to order - so you may or may not be able get them right away.

The PetSmart near me carries them sometimes, as do some other privately owned stores.

If you can't find a store that will order these for you, you could try buying online. But be sure you'll be available to be home to bring them in and unpack them, since leaving them outside in the winter is NOT a good option! And look for a source that offers an "Arrive Alive" guarantee.
