I've heard the same, but I think it was an archaic doctrine that has since been done away with.

I heard that the Holy Priesthood of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was denied to men of Hamitic lineage (bloodline); with only a few exceptions being made. Because of that policy there were comparatively few black African or African-American Mormons. Blacks were considered inferior. Because of pressure, they have since changed their tune because it did not jive with Jesus' teachings about love.

Hi friend. What you heard is not true; Mormons do not teach that black people were less valiant before coming to earth.
The Mormon Church is not a racist church. I'm Mormon, and my wife is black. We were married in a Mormon temple, where the officiator told us that God approved of our marriage. My wife is treated well at church, as are the other African American members of our congregation. I've had a black bishop in several different Mormon congregations of which I've been a member.
Many anti-Mormons, however, intentionally misrepresent Mormon teachings in an attempt to discredit Mormonism. I've written about this type of discrimination on my site at http://www.allaboutmormons.com/brief_critique_anti-mormon_propaganda.php . Pay careful attention to the video at http://www.allaboutmormons.com/ENG_Video62.php .

A few past leaders theorized this, but they were wrong.
Truth is, we don't KNOW why people have certain skin colors, except that iti benefits them from a "Mother Nature" point of view.

I agree with the first answer, it is not true.
No one can be like, "Oh you're "colored" because you couldn't choose between Lucifer and Jesus."

One of my mormon friends explained it to me once, I can't remember exactly what it was but I'm pretty sure you're close.

Not true - we don't believe that, African American people are the same as any other person.
