Yes. This is true. HPV is an STD. A Pap Smear is a method of testing for STDs and precursors to STDs as well as Cervical Cancer. HPV has been known to be a precursor to Cervical Cancer, but does not always lead to it.

I know it-my doctor told me and its all over the commercials now.
And btw, HPV is not the cause of all cervical cancer. It can only sometimes (in some percentages of women) lead to cervical cancer. I know because I had HPV and not get a delightful screening and biopsy for cervical cancer every 6 months.
Also, there is no know data about HPV and its effect on men. It is thought that there is no adverse effect to men-that they can only carry HPV.

Yes, but it's not like HIV or herpes where either person actually knows that they have it. My partner and i are both healthy and free from any illnesses, but i still have to go and have shots to prevent any sort of hpv or cervical caners forming.
