Youll need to back up all your important data to an external drive and reinstall the OS on the new HD.....you didnt say whether you had a laptop or a desktop.

Ti_Cool's suggestion wont work, you will need to use extra tools, such as Ghost or Acronis to clone the content of the Hard Drive to the new one, this will preserve your OS/Programs and data, but do it will caution, do it wrong and you will lose the lot.
