I could see why if it was on either NBC or CBS, because not everyone has the NFL Network (Myself included), but is there any reason why both networks decided to pick up the game?

Because certain area don't have a certain CBS or NBC connection. Here in Houston we have only CBS that shows the Patriots-Giants game. So they are trying to spread it to the entire country If people have bad connection to either of the channel. Plus they will get more views.

While there is no official answer I believe I may have a clue into this.
Aside from the obvious reasoning that the NFL gave into pressure from fans as well as some government officals they want this to be a showcase for their network and also will surely share in the revenue generated from this simulcast.

As to why NBC, and CBS were given the game and not ABC, or Fox, or ESPN
The reason for this is because CBS carries AFC games, this game which would have been scheduled normally for a Sunday afternoon would have been carried on all CBS affiliated stations so thus the reason CBS is in.
NBC is the free network that has games in primetime (Sunday Night Football) and therefore if this were a typical night game they would have been carrying the game.
Fox and ESPN have neither of these things on their side and therefore will not be part of the broadcast.

No idea ask Roger Goodell he allowed it to happen. Im guessing because those are the other to Networks that have contracts with the NFL and since this game was not included on the contracts this year for either of the net works, the NFL decided to let both networks show the game to boost ratings. Also like you said everyone doesnt have the NFL Network and he would everyone to see History or History being denied haha

the NFL, asked both networks to carry the game to reach a wider audience.
(Personally, I think Jerry Jones Did it in order to make sure that He didn't miss His Beloved GIANTS. Sometimes, twice isn't enough. He Doesn't Have Dish Network, yet.)

There's been an outcry from the public that the NFL
network is only avaliable to less than half of television watchers with cable, so the demand is high to see this
game, but NFL network gave up some its rights to exclusively
show the game to allow those networks to cover the game.

b/c everyone wants to see the Pats choke.......no, its really b/c they think their ratings will sky-rocket b/c this game is so highly anticipated........but yet quite boring.......what's so exciting about seeing a team go perfect......i want to watch and see Tom Brady throw 5 interceptions, and the rest of the Patriots screw up their perfect season.........it should be a good game if Eli and the Giants can hold their ground, if not, it will be another bore fest of a game.
