its all about drive.....im a two year starting tailback for my high school mvp of the league, so i got some experience in your situation cause im a smaller back as well, ya got to start fast get to that hole fast keep your eyes up reading blocks and the defense most importantly keep a low center of gravity and with your size you wont be able to run guys over so read defenders angle of pursuits and cut off of them cutback off of blocks and learn to use the spin move(very dangerous if you can learn when and how to use it), hold on to the football at all times two hands on the ball through the line and when theres contact, when you are about to get contact lower your shoulder not your head, keep your feet moving at all times just keep driving and get those hard yards! at your size you MUST get in the weight room your squat is pretty low right now you'll notice the size of jones-drew's legs thats where all his power comes from so ask your coach to set you up with a leg workout so you can get increases in burst power and speed! good luck man!

learn to spin off of contact. The straight arm is good. Even lowering your shoulder helps. Always keep your feet moving. Sorry to tell you but you will get tackled, alot at runningback. No matter how good you are you usually will go down on first contact.. You must concentrate on holding on to the ball and not fumbling it! Don't worry about breaking tackles. Try avoiding them by using cutbacks and jukes. Remember HOLD ON to THE BALL.......Your job as a running back is protecting the ball and getting around 4 yards on every carry. Thats it. If more come, great.

The two most important factors are strength and balance. Squats are good for leg strength and explosiveness, but also work on your arms and shoulders so you can give good stiff arms.

For balance you can do agility drills, or if you wrestle in the off season that can really help.

Keep squating during the offseason to build your muscles, also...duck walking while carrying weights on both your arms, as well as running in something difficult like a pool or on sand.
Don't forget that you must be able to take hits, so you must build your upper body as well...work on your hips, lower back and stomach muscles.

yeah, just get as low as you can and keep ur feet ALWAYS moving. now i dont know if ur a power back or Agility back, but if ur power just learn were to hit the defense at to get them to let go. And if ur an agility back, u gotta learn how to spin, juke, and stuff like that.

Yea just stay low and when ur getting hit chop ur fit really rapidly to keep ur momentum going. Also always keep ur head up to keep ur speed because ur head ways like what 10 percent of ur body and it will way u down if u tilt it, believe i know i had to fix that... AND NEVER EVER EVER EVER ATTEMPT TO TRUCK SOMEONE OVER WITH UR HEAD
