What are some major conflicts that occurred in history? They must be world conflicts, excluding the United States and it should have happened before 2000.

OK How about the Arab / Israeli conflict. Yes, I know this has led to several wars, but think about 1947-48 when Israel came into being as a nation state. There were less than one million Jewish people in Palestine at that time - and less than one million Palestinian Arab people were displaced - - YET, we have an ongoing conflict which has destabilized the Middle East for sixty years and led to this current war on terrorism.
Both people want the same homeland, and it is a small place.
So much strife over so little real estate - - and the history goes back 3000 years to King David and Solomon.
Humans are illogical.
