To answer your question;

The less the government does to try to "Help Me" the better, my vote is for divided. Unless they both agree to lower my taxes and stop trying to take away states rights.

I for one things gov't is best when this is the case. It's too easy for one party rule to become drunk with power.

Look what happened with Bill Clinton and a GOP congress. The GOP Congress wouldn't let him spend to much. Then look what happened with a GOP Pres and Congress. They went on a spending spree like has never been seen before.

Also with divided gov't, only things that appeal to most people get done. All the fringe stuff gets stopped.

Gridlock is the next best thing to smaller government!
