Yes I feel the tiger was taunted and teased. The down side is that the kids parents, who shouldn't be allowed to sue if the kid was taunting, will sue and get big money.

I live here in San Francisco and there are some interesting factors now. The S.F. Zoo is privately owned and has been keeping their employees silenced from the media today. It seems that they, as well as the S.F. Police don't want to say anything that might not sit well with the victim's families. Early reports were that 1) Pine cones were in the moat area, and according to an employee they had to have come from somewhere else and 2) both a shoe(now it's been changed officially to a "shoeprint") and blood were seen on the inside of the metal fence.
It appears the Tiger was taunted and felt threatened and acted in self defense. I'm presuming a long lunge and a clawing at the victims leg to help the Tiger exit the fence side of the moat. After mauling his initial victim the tiger chased the other two taunters (the three were together) about 300 yards to the Terrace Cafe near the Little Puffer train station-passing up other people on the way.
In a later breaking piece it was determined that the wall on the outside of the moat was too short.

If anyone is at fault here, it is the zoo. Even if the tiger had been taunted, there should have been no possibility that it could retaliate against the idiot humans. Tatiana was just being a tiger, so she certainly is not at fault. It is a very sad thing that she was able killed that man and was also killed herself because of it.

i can feel remorse because the poor tiger IF it was being teased didn't know what to do. It was scared and probably thouroughly annoyed. and yes i do think it was teased. why else would it attack...I mean when the same tiger attacked the zookeeper it probably felt the zookeeper was teasing it with food. and to all the people who think the people sticking up for teh animals are stupid then just think about it... animals have brains too, and they react very similarly to humans. They are just as intelligent as we are, just maybe not in the same ways

In the words of Chris Rock "That tiger didn't go crazy, that tiger went tiger!"
These are wild animals. Wild animals have instincts which are to hunt, breed and defend themselves. The tiger was simply either looking for dinner or felt threatened. It did not do anything wrong, it was just being a tiger.

On the one hand, you have to expect animals to act like animals. Tigers will respond in predictable ways. On the other hand, if in fact the tiger's enclosure wasn't safe, the zoo has a HUGE lawsuit on it's hands. On the other hand (are there three hands?!) those enclosures have existed for nearly a century and this is a first.
The investigation will be interesting. It's a shame someone had to die though.

What does it mean that you don't endorse tiger attacks? You are voting against them?
Idiots will always taunt animals.
The animals should be properly held so that they can't kill people.
If I owned a zoo and a tiger escaped and killed someone, I would probably say that they were taunting it too.
Boy I'll bet he's sorry now!

I'm sure the tiger was teased. People [the guys who got mauled/killed] just proved that while we're at the top of the food chain, we're by no means the smartest at times. However, the zoo is at fault too b/c that tiger attacked the zoo feeder last yr and should've been put down. *edit ( or isolated)The zoo needs to update the tiger pen. It's not safe. It needs to be fully enclosed w/bars.

tigers do not have the ability to know what a taunt is and they cannot understand the expressions, gestures and sounds humans make to them even if they are taunting.
The taunting could have been read by the tiger as "he wants to offer me something. maybe food, or treat? hmm. i should get to him"
They simply do not have the mental ability to understand such advanced concepts as taunting, teasing, etc etc etc.
It is way beyond their comprehension.

It doesnt make it right to keep animals locked up to begin with.
i would rather die and become extinct than be locked up for life.
If they taunted her, yes, they asked for it, but why didn't they have a double fence like most zoos do?
