North Carolina is a wonderful state. Way better than Cali. It has a lot of job opportunities, especially banking, finance, research and technology. It has a pretty mild climate and has 4 distinct seasons. Winters aren't nearly as cold as the majority of the country but summers do get hot but it is bearable. I lived in Charlotte and for me it was great. Rent was cheap, people were extremely welcoming and always friendly (but that's the South for you), there was a lot of good places to go out to eat, lots of shopping, racially diverse, and has a pretty decent night life, a good mix of chill bars and clubs. When it comes to Green Cards, that's Federal, not State, so it doesn't matter what state you're looking at. But bare in mind that gaining a Green Card is pretty much near impossible for you. As far as I am aware, the UK and US don't have any reciprocal programs in place and that plays a huge part in moving between countries. You may have made a choice to move to the USA but it really seems as though this is just a pipe dream that won't eventuate, not because of lack of want but because it is just not possible. Sorry, but if you have actually researched this you would know just how difficult it is. And in any case, before you move you should actually visit these possible places. There is no use paying all the money for your appointments with consulates, sponsor fees and everything else solely related to you visa (yes, it costs a lot, just before you even come close to booking your flight) only to get there and you don't like it. Plus, you would probably have to move where ever you get your job at, after all, this is the company that would be sponsoring you for your visa.

Hawaii would be my choice state. I love the warm weather and the beach. And Minnesota would be my least. I hate to be cold. And I would not want to have to deal with all the snow.

Denver, CO (I just moved to California from Denver, and I want to go back so bad)

I'd hate to live in Louisiana. Or anywhere that's hot and humid and gross like that.
