Your physical ability declines as you age. It starts at different ages for different people.
It is true that in some skill sports the experience gained will offset the lose of ability to perform to some extent.
If you look at sprinters they are almost always at the top of their game in the late 20s and begin to get slower.
Distance runners normally are their best in their late 20s and up to late 30s.
There have been several long term studies done on human performance and age has an effect that can be predicted.

As a former bicycle racer (amateur / not pro), I can tell you that once, long ago, when I was 30, I felt very strong as an amateur racer. I was a better rider than anybody I knew in my town, or in my bike club. Then, one day, I was in a short sprint race we call a criterium, and a "young lad" of 18, with the same world class bicycle I had, raced with me at a good pace for the first 11 and 1/2 miles of the race, but when the last turn came up, and it was a straightaway to the finish line, he just kicked it in and left me like I was a baby in a mud puddle. When we finished, I went up to him and said, "You coulda left me whenever you wanted, couldn't you have?" "Yeah", he said. I then asked why he didn't, and he said, "Well, we're friends". I coulda kicked his asss, but, like he said, we were friends, and I was too damned tired. Does that answer your question? God Bless you.

Just look around in professional sports for your answer. How many professional athletes do you see? Rare! So yes, age diminishes our abilities.

Of course, our bodies change, slow down and become less active as we age. Animals do, too.
Sorry about that but it's just a "fact of life."
