...I'm not sure just how far back you might be thinking, but the first title off the top of my head, based upon your description, is the 1975 made-for-television film, "Sweet Hostage", starring Linda Blair, and a very young Martin Sheen (...he was an escaped mental patient, though...not a trucker...so this may not be what you're looking for; still, a real good movie, though!!!)...
