If your house is a death trap--move!

If you cannot afford your rent--move!

Apparently you do not have common sense or the financial resources to be raising a child, have you considered putting the child up for adoption or getting state welfare help?

The way your worded the question expresses a certain amount of instability.

I'm tired of tenants always blaming the landlord when the tenant has all the freedom in the world to make decisions about where they will live.

Two wrongs don't make a right!

In one sentence you say the landlord is trying to evict you because you reported him to authorities yet in the next sentence you didn't pay because you were paying a medical bill for your child.

The issue as you describe is your landlord is attempting to evict you based upon non-payment of rent. You didn't pay because of another issue at hand but that has nothing do to with what the landlord does or doesn't comply with.

You have an opportunity to report his lack of compliance with laws and ordinances and put him on the spot...but not during the eviction hearing...it's not related to the event!

Just to see if I understand, you reported your landlord for not being legally allowed to rent. If you WIN, you are an illegal tenant. Best case, you need a new place to live NOW. Worst case, you have to pay rent AND find a new place to live.

Call legal aid and try to get an attorney. I hope this is not the case, but be prepared to move or stay with friends if you can't pay the rent.

Your landlord will have his own problems to deal with.

I am not an attorney. Only licensed attorneys can give legal advise.
