I spent quite a long time researching your question, but could not nail down any specific statistics.
According to Caribbean-Guide.info, the U.S. Virgin Islands experience a higher level of crime than many Caribbean islands, but less than major metropolitan areas like New York City or London.
Crime is a fact of life in every part of the world. As many tourist resources will point out: a little common sense goes a long way. Follow basic traveler's rules wherever you visit: Never walk alone at night and keep an eye on your belongings. Make a practice of locking valuables in the hotel safe before you adventure out and never carry large sums of cash.
I have been traveling to the US Virgin Islands for twenty years, and have never experienced a problem. I cannot say the same about other islands or countries bordering the Caribbean.
As a seasoned photojournalist, I make a habit of becoming informed about all the neighborhoods I intend to visit. It's also a good idea to acquaint yourself with what official police uniforms and cruisers look like as well as where the police stations are located.

The crime rate is very high compared to cities in the mainland US with similar populations. The US virgin Islands average about 35 murders a year for a population just over 100,000.
However, most of the crime there is "local on local" and tourists are rarely targeted.
I lived there for three years and never had a problem with crime. Just use the same common sense you would use at home in the US and you should be fine. (lock your doors, don't go down dark alleys at night, don't flash money/jewelry, etc.)

Absolutely legalize it! We already have places you can go to but pot with a doctor's note. I haven't heard of one single problem from it. I think it should be like The Netherlands where it is regulated by the government. The crime rate there is low but that is because of harder drugs like heroin and cocaine. Having places like pot coffeehouses available to me when I was 6 made it less forbidden and so I grew up thinking wow big deal. Just like candy is to kids. I dont have any kind of problem now having tried every drug ythere is to try. I am glad I grew up in a tolerant country where it was a VERY big deal if someone got murdered and the perp was always found, but things are changing. There seems to be no simple answer to hard drugs, but leaglize marijuana

45 Murders in 52 weeks. 3 on Christmas. For a place with 50k people, I would say the rate is VERY high. Considering a majority go unsolved or not prosocuted.

The crime rate is very high for the size and population. I lived there for a couple years I moved out because of all the unexplained and unsolved crimes committed. Too many innocent individuals were getting injured.
