When you donate to charity, does the charity take a cut of that money and then give some of it to the poor or whomever?

yes, and in some cases the parent organization takes their cut first. other times the family members run the charity, or on the board, and draw a large salary.

you have to check them out ... thoroughly.

this is why i volunteer my time instead.

when you give to a charity the charity spend the money on the programs that support and all the expenses that the program has, that include rent, utilities, wages, etc. You are entitle to ask the charity you are donating how much of their budget goes to operating costs and how much is for direct services.

PS: charities don't make money, they are non profit organizations so all the money they get goes toward their mission.

consumer reports has a list of which charities give the
most to the needy.
usually the charity does take a cut of the money and some
of it goes to the poor.
some distribute more to the actual charity than others.

A true charity gives most of it to the cause.
