I met and spoke with Mrs. Bhutto a few years ago when she gave a Barrick Lecture at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. So, perhaps more than others, her death makes me truly sad.
I also think that most of the "experts" who have filled the TV screen this day have missed one important point. It is a "Harram" (an offense against the Koran) to murder a woman as a political act. And Mrs. Bhutto was a Muslim. This could turn out to be the stupidest thing which the Hibarah (those who commit sinful war) have done to date. It just might all of the people in the Islamic Umma (family) against them. In short, her killing could mark the death knell of Bin Laden and his ilk.

This assassination is one of many in history....and the USA learned in the 60's that we are not immune to this type of atrocity any more than any other country.

What would make us think we are 'safe'....There were leaders BEFORE JFK who were killed; and attempts were made on Presidents in the US AFTER JFK...nothing new under the sun, unfortunately.

As for Bhutto - I am saddened by her death. I can only imagine the courage it takes for a woman in her native country to take the various stands she has over the decades!

We do not live in Pakistan. Our President and the Queen do not take such chances with their lives. I really admired her, and hoped that she would make some historic changes in that region, but I also knew, as I'm sure she did, that assassination was a real danger. She made too many public appearances, without real security in force, and with too much publicity about where she'd be and when. The President and Queen do not publicize when or where they'll be, if security is an issue. I'll pray for her soul, her family, and country, that it will see democracy some day soon.

An assassination can happen at any time and anywhere. But-the faction that killed Bhuttos had been threatening to kill her for a very long time. Pakistan is a very volatile country. I was very sad when I heard that the beautiful lady had been killed so brutally. I pray for the people of Pakistan.

Have you noticed that no world leaders have visited Pakistan in the past few years ... except for India's Singh under a huge security blanket. It's a very unsafe country for everyone. Even Musharaf has survived lots of attempts on his life.

Musharaf needs to yank civil liberties again and this time really crush those Islamic Fundamenatalist terrorists cockaroaches ... but for good. And while he's at it, go into the Pashtoon controlled mountains, kill Osama bin Ladin and crush them too. Pakistan's Army is quite capable if he unleashes them.

A lot of bloodshed RIGHT NOW is going to be the price of future saftey and security in Pakistan. Diplomacy and talks are wasted on these fanatical kooks.

Yes, I have every confidence in the security systems in place. I was very upset upon hearing the news today of Bhutto's death though.

No, no and no. Alqueda wins here. There is now no real leadership in Pakistan and it will now be ruled by the Gun.
These are very dangerous time my dear, very dangerous times. I saw this coming in September when she did that interview with Wolf Blitzer. She knew, she knew, but the problem...who is her back up? What good does it do to become a martyr ? The problems will continue, the military will rule, the supporters with burn, burn, burn everything everwhere in their rage...and what does that serve? Everyone dies. The cycle will continue....

Let's make sure America does not get involved. We have already poured 10 BILLION dollars into that country. It's another religous/civil war that's been going on for generations and will continue through many more. We can't fix it.

I did feel a sense of dread when I heard former PM Bhutto had been assassinated; not so much for other leaders....more a general sense of dread for all of us.

I feel confident that the President and the Queen are safe. I bet that security is now beefed up on all world leaders.

I don't believe in the concept of safe. I think that is an illusion that the world is perpetuating. No ruler is safe any more than any citizen is safe. My favorite quote is from the movie Gettysburg. "There is no safe place here."
