my brother has this old windows 98 computer and it was connected to dialup and now he has a router and a network card (connected) and it doesn't see the network. The network properties has several items listed including the new device. I am not sure how to connect it - any ideas very much appreciated. thanks

Is your router wireless?if so I would hardwire it firsmt to register the ip address then try to configure it with wireless just get a short RJ45 cable and connect it also try restarting the router and cable modem unplug both power cords restart the computer then plug in your modem ...let all the lights come on and stop blinking then plug in your router and try to connect to it agian.

Did you install the drivers? If everything is installed right and plugged in, he should be able to get on without much hassle. Does he get an ip address even?
