I have 5 great friends (plus my boyfriend, Jason) : Alicia, Jessica, Sammy, Denisha, and Katie. My cousin says you can't have five best friends, that it defaets the purpose of a "best" friend. Do you think that's true?

The more friends you have in life the better. Labeling them best is stupid, but who cares. Go ahead and make friends with as many people as you like, the closer the better.

No that's not true. I have two best friends and I couldn't imagine making it through half the things I go through without them. They are like my sisters. I don't think there's anything wrong with having more then one best friend. If you trust those people and you form a strong bond with them then why can't you consider them your best friends. It's not fair to give one the title and not the other.

to me, a best friend is someone that you confide in. if you do that will all five of your friends, who's to say your cousin is right and you are wrong? maybe she's jealous! be glad you have as many friends as you do, and dont worry about what your cousin thinks *smile*

No I think thats a good amount.
I think the problem starts is when people call their normal friends "best friends" and start having the wrong perception of who their actual real best, close mates are.

It is to your credit that you do not distinguish any one of your good friends as being your "best" friend. If you had 50 it might imply that you weren't really very good friends with any of them, but having 5 good freinds you consider to be best friends seems normal to me.

no. he is confusing you. i'm having lot of friends. you can't buy friends in the shop. so, have friends. nothing wrong in having friends many. in fact friendship will give hand while relations leave hands. i think, your cousin planning to separate you which will make you lonely. beware of cousin.

no because you dont want to many friends. havng alot of best friends if perfect! i ahve so many and they all love each other! so its fine. i think your cousin is saying that you shouldnt because in her point of view, or alot of people think that you should pick a friend. one friend. but lots of people like having multiple best friends and i think thats fine!
