I'm frustrated b/c I don't know how much people usually get. don't they have a fixed wage? if so, why do they even ask a desired wage? walmart, shopko, econo foods, etc.

That's just a general question they put on their to take up space! They do have a set wage for the job they are advertising!
I've only run into one place that actually used it, I applied for a job that required a certain licence, and certain experience, and "I" knew how much they were supposed to pay! And he said that considering the qualifications I had he was willing to pay the amount I wanted!
What I usually do on questions like that, I just put a dollar more, than what I heard somebody else say they were paying!
The only thing they are going to say is that they can only pay, the set price that they have!

Simple...you put in "Negotiable"
