To be honest, it depends on how close to your native roots you are. It's become trendy in recent years to claim Native American heritage because your great-great-grandmother was "Cherokee or something". That has frankly pissed alot of people off in Native circles.
I don't mean to be rude, and I apologise if I'm coming off that way. It's just an irritation. If you have a tangible connection to your Native American side (like a parent was full-blooded, or at least a grandparent that you were close to), by all means, celebrate it. Otherwise, you're best off just celebrating the heritage you actually have a connection to.

No. I don't think it's bad at all. You should love and embrace all that you are. I'm European(white) and Native American. Unfortunately, people don't think I deserve the right to celebrate it, and therefore, I don't go out of my way to do so. I'm open if people ask but there isn't a whole lot I can do without getting slander from people. But I love all that I am. You should too.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'celebrate', but you are perfectly free to embrace and be proud of both, all at the same time. No need to leave ancestors, grandparents really, sitting there ignored like they never existed.
Even if a person knows little about one branch or who they even were (in which case it's probably better not to physically try to 'be' anything or fall victim to stereotyping them), I'm sure they'd have appreciated at least acknowledgment and appreciation for being your ancestors. (Or so goes how I at least look at it, not just for you but for anyone and any heritage.)

I don't think you have to choose between one or the other. Celebrate both at different times. Doing one doesn't mean a betrayal of the other.

Do what you want to do. It's not bad if you honor all sides. It's the best thing you can do! Otherwise you're denying a part of yourself. Have fun!

It would not bother me for one minute to celebrate any part of my lineage. Go to the Pow Wow and have fun. Be proud.
