My boyfriend and I are going to Amsterdam for NYE but he is on crutches due to recent surgery. This results in him not able to walk for too long. We're staying near the Rembrandt area and I was wondering if someone can tell us if there are many things happening for NYE around that area so he wouldn't have to travel too far from the hotel and if transportations on NYE is quite accessible? Neither one of us have been to amsterdam before and we didn't want to cancel because of his knee surgery..so anyone can recommend anything? We probably won't be able to go into any clubs so we were wondering if the cafes are opened till quite late so we can just find a good decent place and chill for the night, any recommendation would be great!

Cafes are likely to be open, but I have never been in Amsterdam during NYE.

Public transport will be down between early evening and about 2 in the morning, check with your hotel staff for the exact times. And taxis will be hard to get.
So best stay near your hotel if you can. But near and on Rembrandtplein are enough place to enjoy yourself.

PS, after midnight there will be more places open than early in the evening. But I think that most cafes will be open the evening too.
