Either one will be a controversy. People are complaining now about not making 1 or 2 or 25. If we did a playoff they would still be complaining about not being picked for that too. We should just stick with what we are given until someone comes up with something better.

If I had to choose between the two, I would take the BCS. I could live with a 6 team playoff, but any more than that would pretty much kill the regular season. As for the no name bowls, there might be a few we could do without, but I love the inter regional matchups, like tonights game.

I like to see some sort of playoff being included into the system.
For example, the top 8 are in playoffs where in #1 plays #8,
#2 plays #7 and so on. The winner moves on to the next phase
and the winner takes the pride of National Champs.
The remaining top 25 (minus 8) go for the Bowls or can have
another playoff among the next 8.
The current system fails miserably and I cannot even know
how they select other than computer generated.....ofcourse
it is programmed to what we tell the computer to do.
Bottom line, it sucks.....

I agree with you. The NCAA should establish a 16-team playoff consisting of the eleven conference champions conferences (yes including the lowly Sun Belt champs) and five at-large berths.
Hm, deacon_frost06 not a bad idea. Do you attend a Division II school? If not how do you know the Division II playoff system?
You went to North Alabama? Hm, interesting cause I currently attend Grand Valley State. Too bad it was not a UNA vs. GVSU match-up in the national championship game this year.

the whole subject is ignorant honestly.. not knocking your question.. but the concept of a playoff in Div 1 football is flawed from the beginning.. everything anyone tries is based on biased human polls.. the BCS, all the Playoff formats, and the +1 Idea all live/die by the polls..
here's my plan for what it's worth (Stolen from Div II)
4 regional rankings NE, SE, NW, SW.. all the teams are ranked by computer based on Strength of schedule and record (notice no mention of margin of victory as that just promotes running up the score and messes up the games integrity).. after the season, the final regional rankings are released.. these are the final seeds.. top 4 from each region gets in regardless of who it is.. no Automatic bids!.. so 16 teams get in.. 4 rounds.. winner takes all and no one whining about how unfair it was!
went to University of North Alabama
yea no doubt.. I wanted to see the UNA vs GVSU game.. it would have been a great one.. too bad both teams lost out

Neither. We should just go back to the way it was. Remember these are unpaid college students who are playing these games. Football is a very violent sport. If you add more games then you run the risk of them have career ending injury's. I love football and would love to see a better system to find out who is the best, but not at the cost of a great ball player who could make millions in the NFL. The only way the NCAA should allow the football season to expand is if they start paying these kids. Until then the NCAA needs to decrease the number of games. 12 games and a bowl. That's it. The Big 10 does it best no conference championship. And that is really a good thing.

Why not both? Top 8 playoff and all the others get to go bowling? You underestimate the importance to the Schools, communities and players if you want to get rid of all the bowls!
When you earn a bowl game you also get around 40 extra practices! This is key development time for the players who will need to step forward as leaders for the following season.

I like the idea of eight teams in a tournament, plus the bowl games for the others.
That would mean three extra games for two teams, two for four, and it would be like a bowl game for the other four in the first round. They could even be bowl games. Play the first round the weekend after Christmas. The New Year's Day BCS bowls (Sugar, Orange, Rose, and Fiesta) could return to their league ties and take get any teams but the top eight. The semi-finals would generate HUGE amounts of CA$H!

Definitely a playoff system, just like every other sports championship is decided on this planet. Why does college football think it is so special that it can decide who is the best team, rather than let the teams play for it. The BCS is retarded.

why not both you could keep the BCS system through out the regular season and let it decide who goes to the playoffs whatever you want a 4,8 or 16 seed playoff let the BCS decide which seed they would be.
As for the no-name bowls lets keep them if two mediocre teams want to play a meaningless game in a neutral site why not let them just as long as it has no affect on the playoffs
