Ok, if she's bleeding I would run it under luke warm water...then put pressure on it to stop the bleeding...but not too hard. After maybe ten minutes or until the bleeding subsides put a band-aid on it. If it's bad definately go to the doctor.
But don't go to the doctor if it only feels numb...unless it continues after a few hours because she might have damaged a nerve, which is bad.
And yeah it's happened to me, too many times:-(

Seems kind of odd, my mother did the exact same thing peeling a potaote when I was kid, the odd thing is today is her birthday and she's deceased. Any who, we ran it under cold water, and she wrapped it. If it is numb she probally cut a nerve and if it seems deep enough for that may need stitches. If she doesn't want to go to the doctor, she probally doesn't have to, but I'd keep an eye on it and if it doesn't get better or start getting some feeling within a day or so I would definitely have it looked at, it could have done more damage than what meets the eye. Never hurts to get those things checked out especially when you are dealing with nerves and things like that. Good Luck.

She does not have to go to the doctor unless she chooses to do so. If the bleeding has stopped, then it is not necessary. Hopefully, she has washed it with soap and water and put a clean bandaid over it. Some antibiotic ointment will also lessen the chance of infection. The finger tips are full of nerves and she has injured some of these. These symptoms should go away as the wound heals. She should consider getting a tetanus booster if she has not had one in 10 years. She has 48 hours in which to get a booster after the injury.

if its not bleeding then your okay. I get cut all the time. if its still numb after a few hours than you need to go because they may have cut a nerve.

Injuries are often numb at first, so you can take care of them before they start hurting!
A clean knife shouldn't be a tetanus concern, so just clean it thoroughly and bandage it, but not too tightly.

Without seeing exactly where she got cut, it's hard to say. There are nerves and tendons all through your hand, and if one of them gets injured, you could be in trouble. I'd get it looked at, if I was her. Better safe than sorry.
