It just got me thinking reading questions today that I have heard from some women that you usually labor alot quicker in your 2nd, 3rd, ect... pregnancies then your 1st. In my 1st I labored for 23 hrs. I am 24 weeks now and guess if that theory stands true by opinions here at this sight. Do any mothers agree that there 2nd went quicker then there 1st??? I am curoius to know who may have had the shortest labor??

I do believe that each subsequent delivery is shorter than the previous one. Though every person is different, and you will have women who have longer labors in subsequent pregnancies. I can only speak from my own experience. With my first it was a 7 hour labor from start to delivery, and with my second it was only a 3 hour labor from start to finish.

I would say that if I had another I would probably check into the hospital early, just to make sure I didn't give birth in the car on the way. Lololol!! I am just kidding, but my situation may be different from others, because I was induced with both of my children.

I have never actually experienced a contraction that wasn't caused by medicine, I never had my water break on its own, and I never lost my mucous plug without help. So like I said, you will just have to go through the process yourself to know what is actually going to happen. Good luck!

I asked a question very simular to this one as I am 34 weeks with number 2 and worried I wont make it to the hospital in time.
My sister labored with number one for only 1 1/2 hours ( I know lucky her) then with number 2 only 1/2 hour after the waterbroke.
If you check out my questions you will see a couple of answers from more people and the majority said it was a little quicker and the baby came earlier, but their were a few on there who said they were later or had a longer labor.
Good luck to you!

I was induced both time with my kids, my first I went to the hospital 7:30am and had her at 2:30am the next morning
My second, went to the hospital at 7:30am and had him at 3:45pm,.. so definitely better..
I personally am more worried about the babies being bigger each time theory .. which also holds true with me.... my fear is that my first was 9lbs 3oz and my second was 10lbs 8oz... you can probably guess why I am afraid lmao

Anyway, another example.. my mom was in labor with my brother (her first) for 26 hours, and in labor with me (her second) for only 2 1/2...

It really all depends on how things go for you, there is no telling really if it's gonna go quicker or not.... I hope it does for ya though!
Good luck and congrats!

I would agree with the theory. My first labour was 31 hours and my second was only 6. I'm pregnant with our third now and due to other circumstances am having a C-section.

As a side note, my mother-in-law's friend would agree with the theory as well. She woke up one morning during her fourth pregnancy and felt a twinge while sitting on the toilet, looked down and saw a foot. She delivered breach before the paramedics arrived.

Good luck!

This concept freaks me out. My labor with my duaghter was 2 hours start to finish. I'm 26 along with #2, and I hope it's not quicker than the first, or I may not make it to the hospital.

I was told by my regular doctor that what he learned while doing his OB rotation is that baby #1, you're down there helping to pull the baby out while mom pushes. Baby #2, the baby just comes out easily. Baby #3, you have to stand back with a catcher's mitt.

He was trying to be funny, obviously, but said there was truth to it. Normally, you progress faster as your body knows what to do and has made the "stretch" before.

I disagree with that theory. I do agree that it gets easier.

My first was 4 hours
My second was 13 hours
and
My 3rd was 16 hours
