This is my second baby, and my first was all natural with no problems. This one is taking a bit longer and being a pain! lol

My doctor says she'll strip my membranes on Monday...anybody else had this done? What all is involved? Does it work? Does it hurt? My cervix is far back, and it's extremely painful just to get my cervix checked...does this mean it'll be painful? Any experience would be helpful!

I had my membranes striped with my daughter and it was painful for me and I have normal positioned cervix. My doctor stripped mine the same day that he admitted me to the hospital to be induced... so I'm not so sure it worked or not. Hope this helps! Good luck and just remember to relax!

I have had this done. Two times. It will cause you to go into labor in 3-6 hours. It does not fell good. Feels like a really hard pap smear. Just breath all the way through it. It only takes a few seconds. But be ready to go back to the hospital that day. In other words, have a bag packed. Not a bad idea to have someone with you. Good luck and Congrats!!!

Your practitioner may offer to "strip your membranes" to help start your labor. This procedure usually feels like a vaginal examination, although it sometimes can be painful or cause cramping. The practitioner places her gloved finger through the cervix and sweeps the amniotic membranes free of their attachment to the lower part of the uterine cavity. This process is believed to release hormone-like substances called prostaglandins, which help to ready your body for labor.

While some experts believe that stripping the membranes causes you to go into labor that day, the only research on this procedure was done by a group of midwives who stripped the membranes of a group of their patients at every visit to the office after 38 weeks gestation. Their findings showed that patients who had this procedure were less likely to go past their due dates. According to the study, the procedure didn't seem to pose any complications and didn't cause the patients' waters to break.

I am 33 weeks preg with my 4th child and i had this procedure done with my 2nd daughter. Yes it does feel quite uncomfortable and it can be painful and it does cause you to bleed a bit. But in my case i was 4 days over due and i was willing to try anything!!!! I had the procedure done at 1.30pm and i felt my first labour pain at 10.00pm that night and my gorgeous daughter was born at 11.42pm, only an hour and 42 mins later.....For me it was well worth it and it worked a treat, but bare in mind it will only bring labour on if your cervix and body is ripe and ready. My girlfriend gave birth to her 9 pound baby boy 2 weeks ago and he was 14 days overdue and she had this procedure done 4 times in a week and it didn't help her at all.......Good luck....

I had it done and I went into labor that evening. I won't lie it was quite painful (nothing that I couldn't handle and I'm a wimp). My doc turned his fingers while her was checking me.... I felt like crawling up the table but I just thought about holding my sweet baby and it was worth the pain =) .... my cervix was far back too..... GOOD LUCK and Best Wishes with you new little one!!!

They use their fingers and separate the bag of waters from your cervix and generally irritate what's going on right there. Yes, it doesn't feel all that wonderful and it doesn't always work to get things started.

I had this done and I wish I had just waited. Yes it hurts a lot and I am no baby. I was to my due date with twins every thing was fine but my Doctor was very nervous but I wouldn't induce so I agreed to it. I still wish I hadn't, 3 day spent in agony and getting no where I had to go in a get induced, it sucked. Maybe your little one just needs another day or 2. Whatever you chose your the one in charge!!!

I had already had my membranes stripped, grow to be only at one million cm dilated and not having any contractions. I had heard of ingesting castor oil or having intercourse...i grow to be desperate for the toddler to be out so I did the two lol!I drank approximately an ozof castor oil blended with coke. And my husband and that i had intercourse suited afterwards (around 10 pm) At approximately eleven, I have been given my first contraction and that they got here each 2 minutes. they only began that way. I waited for greater or less an hour or so before waking up my husband (he's interior the army and has to upward thrust up at 5am each morning so i did no longer opt to wake him up for yet yet another fake alarm) by skill of hour of darkness (I HAD WAITED TOO long LOL) I woke him up...I had already packed the medical institution luggage for myself, him, my daughter, and the hot toddler at the same time as interior the 1st degree of hard artwork. We drove to the medical institution and that they first checked me at one million:00am. i grow to be only dilated to a one million even nonetheless I were having hard contractions for greater or less 2 hours. They informed me to pass walking and that i've got been given as far as down the corridor before i ought to fairly stand. by skill of the time i grow to be checked lower back, under 10 minutes later i grow to be already at 4cm so as that they admitted me. They have been given my iv working and by skill of the time they could get an anesthesiologist to my room for an epidural yet son grow to be born. My entire hard artwork grow to be approximately 2 one million/2 hours. of course the castor oil and/or intercourse sped it up plenty, which isn't a sturdy element. (My son grow to be interior the nursery for the 1st few hours using fact he grow to be under rigidity from the variety of quickly hard artwork) i could attempt one or the different, and if no longer something enables, then the two. i be responsive to it would not artwork for each guy or woman...it only works in the experience that your toddler is in a place to come lower back out yet in basic terms needs slightly help! sturdy success
