It was the biggest most luxiorious vessel of its day. It was built by the White Star liner company of Liverpool, England. It was on its maiden voyage. It's captain was E.J. Smith. He was on his retirement voyage. The Titanic weighed 43,000 tons. It was 882.5 feet long. If it had hit the iceberg straight on it would not have sank. (this is from memory, theres much more to learn) It was small by standards today. The Freedom of the Seas is 1100 feet long and 160,000 tons.
