Hey guys hope someone could help me.

My friend has a 1998 Dodge Stratus. She told me that today she started the car when it was cold and it was on but wouldnt run when she switch to Drive and the car goes but a couple of seconds later its still running but will no longer go...

after sitting there running for 10 minutes until it warms up the car runs just fine. it is around 30-40 degrees but not sure if that is a problem or not? havent changed the oil in a good while and not sure if im missing anything.

any help would be appreciated! thanks!

i could suspect the thermostat is caught in part open or thoroughly open. The thermostat ought to stay away from coolant from flowing till a temperature is reached, in lots of situations between one hundred eighty and 220 deg. Fahrenheit. If the engine does no longer get to wide-spread working temp this is probable the subject. If the engine does get to wide-spread operation temp then the coolant point may be low it is going to reason destructive flow with reference to the heater middle.

I'd say Justin is right. I had one that was very slow to in gage and found out the pump in the transmission was bad and it needed rebuilt.

The transmission filter is plugged.
Change the filter and oil.
