A friend of mine is a teacher and she told me a story about years ago one student used to rub themselves on the leg of the desk....at that age it doesn't necessarily mean anything sexual, they just like the feeling it gives them (they don't understand why) If that was my little sister I would be worried too. I guess you have to think about it seriously, your instinct is telling you something is wrong isn't it. How would you feel if you say/do nothing and when she is older she tells you that she was being abused. Is there a way you can start going to your father's with your sister? Your mother loves you both and would of loved your father in the past and I am sure she just cannot imagine him doing anything like this, but you are right, if he drinks he doesn't have all his faculties and any behavour is possible. It is hard because it is a big thing to come and accuse someone of messing with your sister especially when it is your father but I feel like you would regret doing nothing too. It shows how much you love your sister to be so worried about this, I would suggest you go with your sister to visit your father next time and keep an eye on what is going on and your sister's behaviour....then if you still think something is wrong, you will have to tell your Mum or another trusted adult.

I have 2 little girls and they are about that age and neither of them have ever done this. I am not sure its normal. If your really concerned about it, call a doctors office and talk to the nurse there. They can help you more than I could...hope everything is okay with her though...good luck!
Edit: I don't think its in any way normal for a 5-7 year old to be masterbating... little kids (1-3) may touch themselfs as they are discovering their bodies, but at 5-7, no..not normal. Kids don't do that till they are older, maybe middle school age!? I would def. call a doctors office or as someone suggested a sex abuse hotline. Don't leave it up to your mother if she has already blown it off as something she will grow out of. Take it into your own hands cause your sister will thank you one day if something is happening to her now.
Good luck!

Some children play or rub themselves as it feels good. They don't know that it is masturbation all they know is that it feels good. More girls do this than boys but boys will rub themselves against couch cushions, but if a parent would step in and explain that what they are doing is not to be done in public the child should be OK. Maybe an older sister can explain that they need to not do this in public. Good Luck!

I have a 5 yr old and she has never done something like this... If anything I think the 3 of you should try and see if you can get anything out of her. My daughter knows that no one can touch her privates... and once by accident while giving her a bath I kinda did and shes like oohhhhhhhhh ima tell daddy. SO yeah talk to her this doesnt sound like a phase its been two years.

It sounds like you come from a loving home (abuse is mostly within the home) , so probably it is just one of those weird things that kids do occasionally. The difficulty here is that if you speak to another adult they have to report it just in case to cover themselves. Speak to your mum again, tell her to restrict individual adult ( 12+) access to your sister as much as possible and she should gently speak to your sister. At 7 she should be able to point out problems in her life. It may be
another problem you haven't thought about. Family breakdown, bullying etc.

Your mother needs to talk to the family doctor and ask for a psych referral. That is the best place to start. It does sound like she is doing something in a sexual manner. She'll be evaluated and maybe they'll prescibe therapy to find out what is going on.

She might hae been abused, she might have seen people have sex, on screen, or actually, or it might be innocent.
Do nothing apart from observe unless you find evidence of abuse. If you find she has been abused, and are sure, then I would quietly, without fuss, transform the absuser to corpse mode in an accidentory compatible scenario.

It might just feel good to her(the same way young boys will play with their genitals when not diapered) and nobody has taught her that those activities are alone activities, she needs to understand that it's okay, but not something to be done publicly.
