A last will and testament disposes of your estate (your stuff) and lets people know who you want to raise your minor children. It also appoints an "executor" to take care of winding up the affairs of your estate.

Do not write it alone. Every state has formalities, which if unfollowed can result in the will being null and void. You need an attorney.

A living will tells people what your desires are if you're on life support: pull the plug, or leave you hooked up? It's usually done with a health care power of attorney which appoints someone to accomplish the desires you list in your living will.

Wills direct who is to be the executor of your estate, how to dispose of your property and, sometimes, deal with appointments of guardians for minor children. "Living wills" are not wills - they are health care directives that appoint someone to make health care decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so.
