the point is...anyone remotely familiar with guns can figure out a safety in less than 10 seconds.....and only an idiot would go out with a loaded weapon that he did not know ho to work the safety on.

Also I noticed that they are not careful where they are pointing the muzzles of those shotguns. If one of those shotguns went off accidentally they could spray the person next to them with shot.

They could very easily have repeated the debacle that Dick Cheney committed when he hit a hunting companion in the face with shot.

This is exactly how those kinds of accidents happen. They need to be very aware of where those muzzles are pointed at all times.

They need to keep those muzzles pointed far enough away from people that you would not hit someone if that gun accidentally went off.

You should always treat a gun as if it were loaded and could go off accidentally at any time. You always make certain that the muzzle is pointed away from people at all times.

One of the problems with flushing birds they way they are is that as you walk over uneven and frozen ground it is very easy to slip or trip.

That is when guns go off accidentally and that is how people are shot accidentally.

All of these people need a remedial course in gun safety.

To answer your question;

It is very likely that when you get a new firearm that you are not familiar with (like Mike Huckabee) it takes time to get the safety latch figured out. I have owned my firearms for twenty years yet sometimes I forget to remove the safety before I try to fire it. It something that everyone who owns and fires a gun experiences, so no he is not a idiot. The fact he walks with a loaded shotgun with the safety on means he is a responsible gun owner.

What disturbs me is ... not the hunting guns. I think you guys should be allowed to keep those. That makes sense.

It's people who own the M-14s and those are NOT appropriate for hunting. We have had two kids shot with those in the past couple years. Taking Dad's gun out and playing with it. There is no logical reason Dad would be hunting with a simi automatic gun.

There are no controls on hand guns anymore. We need to take them off the streets ... ALL of them. There is NO reason for the general public to be carrying guns on the street.

If someone is caught carrying a loaded gun on the street it should be confiscated. We are having a gun war on the streets anymore. The criminals are better armed than the police.

Take the Guns off the Streets and Educate the Hunters.

Brainless idiots go out hunting with an unfamiliar gun! If the gun you are using is knowingly malfunctioning and can kill an innocent person then you should be barred from having a hunting license.
I respect the right to bear arms and would not deny anyone that right. (Not talking about criminals here) But to use a malfunctioning gun is the epitome of insanity, certainly not worthy of political office!

That obviously was not his personal shotgun.

It sounds like he was trying to operate it like another type of shotgun and discovered the safety works different than he was used to.

He acted responsibly in this video.

He had the safety on until ready to fire....Seems responsible to me.
Anyone that owns and shoots firearms has forgot the safety was on from time to time....

Shameless photo op, with slightly warped humor...who cares.

At least he's not a hateful liar like Kerry when he tried to get the pro-hunter vote.

And your point is??? He had an unfamiliar gun. He asked and figured it out. No, not all guns are alike. No, just because you own a gun doesn't mean you can figure everyone out in less than 10 seconds.
In my job if we buy a new gun, we must go to the range and spend a few HOURS qualifying on it, regardless of type. I recently bought a new 9mm. Identical to what I have, yet the job required me to be qualified on it to carry it off duty. They spent hours going over all the features, and familiarizing me with it.
I'm not really sure what your point is. You quite obviously know very little about firearms, because your statement shows ignorance of firearms knowledge.
The man asked a question and actually figured it out in less than the 10 seconds you deem "appropriate", LOL.
