18 year olds are considered adults in every aspect of the law. They are, and should be, subject to the same laws as everyone else.
Yes, it is true that there are some things that 18 year olds are prohibited from doing that older people can. They cannot buy alcohol or guns (in certain states), nor can they run for Congress or President. But that doesn't really have anything to do with them being responsible for their actions.
Should I, a 23 year old, be charged as a minor because I can't rent a car without paying a hefty surcharge due to my age? Should a 34 year old be charged as a minor because he cannot run for president do to his age? Should a 59 year old be charged as a minor because they aren't eligible for the senior citizen discount at IHOP due to their age?
There are age restrictions on a lot of things, and they exist for various reasons, but they don't have anything to do with whether or not a person should be charged as an adult when committing a crime.

No, an 18 year old is not a minor, even if they cannot purchase alcohol or frequent bars that serve it, 18 is the age of majority.
Also, some people as young as 14 are tried as adults due to the nature of their crimes, and the determination that they were aware that what they were doing was illegal and they are determine to have the capacity to determine the difference between right and wrong.

Yes you do have a point there. 18 year olds aren't considered "mature" enough to have Bud Light but yet society expects them to be mature enough to be criminally responsible for their actions(actually some states such as NY, you will be tried as an adult at age 16). So yes, 18 year olds should be tried as adults because society has drawn the line that 18 is the age of majority where one is considered an adult. That said, the drinking age should be lowered to 18 combined with sort of a drinking permit because I think arbritary age limits on their own for alcohol are not effective, so that all adult privledges are granted upon attaining the age of majority. To the guy that said 18 year olds of today aren't responsible, tell that to the families of all the people under 21 killed in Iraq who were able to get shot or blown up but yet not "mature" enough to have a beer.

Hello,
I think a 18 year old is a child.
I talk to 18 year olds as kids, not one of them can talk me into treating them as anything but a kid, a child.
However since more and more kids feel they are adults, and can do or saw anything they want as a adult, why not allow them the privilege of being responsible for there actions?
If a 18 year old kills someone, is that person not still dead. Do you realize at 14 a child can sign his or her own paperwork for the state of Oregon without a parents signature.
A 18 year old can get married, legal to sign documentation for credit cards, open a bank account, drive a car and buy one, go into a porno shop, have a baby, buy cigarettes, go off to war.
18 is still a child, though the rules are set up for them to be adults. If speaking to one of these children, they too will tell you they are grown up now.
We coddle our kids way to much in today's society. We allow them to get away with everything, our excuse for these kids, oh they are just kids.
So yes they should be tried and convicted as adults. Until of course we change the laws/rules.

i think they should
i am 17 and i have plenty of 18 year old friends and a 19 year sibling who are VERY much aware of what they are doing when they commit crimes. just because they cant buy beer doesnt mean anything. your takin out a very old argument here, come up with a better reason then "because clubs are 21 and over" . and when your 18 its not that you cant go to bars cause your young. your obviously very misinformed. its because your brain is not ready for alcoholic abuse. cause i am real teen (been though my share of drugs and partying) and I can tell you if any of my friends were to able to buy alcholo legally I'd say about 90% of them would commit serious crimes under the unfluence and i'd say about 95% of them would be alcohol abusers . but that HAS nothing to do with been tried as an adult of a crime at 18, example My friend may be 18 and his liver may not be ready for abuse but I do believe he knew exactly what he was doing when he stabbed a man because he tried to rob the guys wallet for drug money. You sound young but take it from someone that knows the difference

They should be tried as an adult because you are considered an adult at 18. Whether you can go to clubs or get booze has nothing to do with it. Does anyone actually think otherwise? Are you 18 and committed a crime?

Trying an 18 year old as an adult and the legal drinking age are mutually exclusive issues (they have nothing to do with one another). People are considered adults at 18 because society believes that by that age they are capable of making responsible and informed decisions for themselves. Also they should be able to determine right from wrong and understand the consequences of their actions.

At 18 you are legally able to sign contracts and enter into agreements. You can enter or be drafted into military service to kill or die for your country. You can vote. You are legally an adult who is responsible for their actions and should therefore be charged as an adult.
Your alcohol argument is not an argument to have 18 year olds charged as minors. If anything, it is an argument to drop the drinking age to 18. Similarly, the argument that 18 year olds get drafted into the military is how the voting age got dropped to 18.

18 years old, is the age that a person reaches adulthood, due to the fact that by 18 years of age that person is in full mental capacity of their actions.
So yes they should be tried as an adult because they should already be able to take the responsibilities as such.
.
Clubs are 21 and over because of the drinking age in the US, in Canada its 19 except for some provinces where its 18 (Quebec).

At 18 you can vote and join the military. You can do anything else any other adult can do except drink. If people under 21 showed responsibility with alcohol, more of the public would back lowering the age limit. Until then, we will support leaving it where it is.
