How about trying something other than a specific battle or circumstance ? For example, do an essay on the things that would likely be different in U.S. society if the 2nd Ammendment had not been enacted - or possibly repealed. No guns on the streets would have a wide-reaching impact on American culture.
(And this is not an anti-gun campaign...just a thought)
You could also try something wild like removing the invention of the internal combustion engine (if you are heavily into the environment and pollution).
If you're more comfortable with an event, go with one of history's more influential assassinations - ie: Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand (the reason for WWI), or JFK or Abraham Lincoln, etc.

When people say that they don't want Hitler and change this completely. They should completely instead of getting rid of Hitler, get rid of Stalin and Mussolini because they both influenced the mind of Hitler. Without both of them, Hitler would be nothing, i think? The idea of concentration camps came from Stalin and totaltarian state from Mussolini.
For me, I would change the ruling of Mao Zedong. Because I'm chinese, I wouldn't want someone destroy and cause so much suffering to my 2nd country, america my first cuz i was born here.
Edit: Omg, I forgot, the war in Iraq shouldn't really have happened. Also the removal of Sadam Hussein was such a mistake because the removal of him lead to a f*cking civil war and mess in Iraq with the Shites, Sunnis, and Kurds! Now, its even harder to stop the war! arghh! -.-

I would make Florida vote for Gore in the 2000 election. Gore would have responded to 9/11 in a more intellectual way, than Bush's gut reaction to "put your dukes up." Perhaps it was hatred of another Bush president that caused Bin Laden to strike at America again. He had a grudge against George Sr. He didn't have a grudge against Gore. But who can figure the thoughts of a mad man?

Do erasing Hitler. You can just use the theme set down in command and conquer red alert. Hitler was removed from history and the soviets stepped up in his place and were far more brutal. Something people refuse to face is no matter what someone will exploit a favored condition it is human nature.

I would have attacked the taliban after the attack on the USS Cole in November 2000. If Clinton would have had the guts to face the problem then, the world trade center would still be standing and all those inocent civilians would not have died, our economy would be better and we wouldn't have lost a natonal landmark.

I would definitely say change the Holocaust. It is such a dark, sad time in modern history. Millions and millions of innocent people died needlessly. I wonder what would the world be like today if that never happened.

That Mexico would have not been corrupt from the start,
and that they would Industrialize right away.
Then they wouldn't have lost the Mexican American war, and I'd
be a Mexican national!
no wait, no Protestant Reformation, that would have solved the world's every problem. No Protestants=no retards.

I would make the British, French and American leaders just prior to World War II realize who Hitler was and what he was capable of, so instead of trying and trying for peace they would have hit him when they could have knocked him out with a short war, instead of the long drawn out war it turned out to be.
