Buy a wooden shelving unit. Ikea has good shelves for garage storage. They are made of pre-drilled planks that you can put together with bolts. The shelves shouldn't be deep because most of the items you will put on them will be relatively small (drill, toolbox, etc). You could also buy some plastic drawers from the hardware store to put smaller items away (drill bits, packs of nails etc.) Hope this helps.

I use the 5 shelf PVC units sold at Lowes/ HD/ etc. with tubular supports.

I suspect though, that you might have to ask What is a keeper and what isn't, including the CAT, LOL, no offense. Is the cat and In/out cat? It certainly might become one, everytime the door is open, if it's using the litter box at the time.

Organizing a garage isn't much different than ones own bedroom, or kitchen. The notion is those items you mention, who has control over them, what WORK space might be available with your vehicle in the garage, and what help you might get with regard to the TOOLS and Parts.

load up the "junk" haul it to the scrape yard, iron, copper, aluminim, etc.. use $$ from this to buy a toolbox for the tools, tote anything else to the trash.
