I would say to be sure....plan a trip to each place and look at neighborhoods, schools, shopping and any other thing you can think of that would affect your day to day living. Stay at least a day or two....just to drive and look around and take in the place. It is helpful to meet with a realtor to help you navigate the town and its areas.

Both places are historic, pretty, have shops, dining and are waterfront. Would you want to live in the downtown area or would you want more of a suburban family type environment? You would have to weigh all that out.

I have family in Savannah, but have never lived there. I have vacationed in Charleston....and I really liked it. However I noticed the area surrounding Charleston is kinda poor....and since it has been awhile when I was last there, that might have changed. I have spoken to people who have been to both places and it seems most people like Charleston over Savannah because there seems to be more going on.

One other suggestion, I might add for you to check out would be Wilmington, NC....it a cute beachside town and affordable housing...and it is relatively small and similiar features as Charleston and Savannah.

I stay in Charleston S.C. so of path i'll assert Charleston yet my 2nd determination could be Savannah and then Jacksonville through fact Jacksonville is a super city and that i dont prefer to stay in a super city.
