Or maybe someone that you know has been lost in the desert, jungle etc, and had to eat spiders/snakes to survive. I`ve been watching Bear Grylls in the desert, just wondered if these types of survival programmes have actually helped anyone?

i have never eaten bugs.. but my uncle used to eat worms and other bugs when he was younger as a dare to make some quick money from his buddies. he still does it once in awhile to gross the family out. and i guess he turned out okay... haha

My wife and i once really did get stuck in a desert once and she was pregnant as well. It was not one of the best periods of my life. We lived off sachets of sugar we'd collected from cafes and took up smoking (i believed she was pregnant at the time but she didn't). After we got out of the situation, people bought us food, but we ended up having to sleep rough for a while.

I have some survival skills, but those are for a temperate climate, not the desert, and basically there was nothing there which would have helped us.

I've never had to eat bugs to survive but I did eat fried grasshoppers, crickets and silkworm larvae in Thailand (the grasshoppers and crickets were good, but I don't recommend silkworm larvae).
However, if you were lost in the wilderness, bugs would be a great thing to eat. They're full of protein. (You don't need Bear to tell you that... though he does know what he's talking about).

well just to let you know bear is a fake, he just films the show and goes back to a hotel. besides that they are helpful i have been lost but never for too long, and yes i did eat some ants and a worm and it kinda sucked, because two hours later i found my way out and no one was looking for me.

I don't think I could EVER be hungry enough to eat a bug. I could eat a snake, if I could COOK it, but not a bug, not ever.
