I get the impression that many people on Yahoo Answers really don't take the time to understand things from a different political point of view. It seems like the response to both questions and answers is based on democrat=evil, republican=good (or vice versa). Do you have a tendency to do this?

To answer your question;

I look at the issues, I don't agree with my party on every issue but I do agree with my party on a majority of the issues.

I have only voted for 1 democrat in my life and came to regret it. Not that republicans are so great but I err on the side of the party which I mostly agree with.

If a democrat believed what I did they would be a republican.

I have abstained a bunch of times.

I look at issues unfortunately too many people are not into issues but only name calling, personal attacks and that sort of stuff. I know many people in the other party and actually agree with them on some issues. The problem is that extremists, radicals, on both sides are out in force making themselves and the candidates they support look really foolish.

I tend to look at the issues and where each talking head stands. Of course the talking heads sometimes change their positions like they change underwear. I hate to say this but politics is subjective, depends on what's going on at the time regarding the way that I vote. The political issues, views and lines are blurred.

I look strictly at the party (whether it's right or wrong) - I admit it. Dems are usually into throwing money at people instead of pulling them out of a pit and teaching them how to earn and be independent. I don't want socialized anything (other than security - of which it's possible I'll never see that which I worked hard for many, many years and paid in to).

The issues. The people who vote straight are responsible for many of the messes we currently find ourselves in, the best person for the job should be the one we choose not the best "party".

Only complete idiots go with "the party" or "ideology" concept. Unfortunately, that accounts for a majority of voters. Most them are too dumb and/or lazy to explore the issues.
That's why we got Bush for two terms.

That's like asking the average person if they judge people just by their looks, or do they wait to get to know the person first. Most people will tell you that they wait, and judge people by their character, not their looks. Sadly, in reality, most folks just check the box next to D or R.
